Siemens C450 IP Phone - VoIP without a PC

Siemens C450 IP cordless phone is making its debut at the CeBIT computer fair in Hanover, Germany. It has developed a fixed-line telephone that makes it possible to place calls over the Internet without the need to use a computer for a dial-up connection to the Internet.

In the early stages of Internet telephony, users could place calls only while using a headset and microphone and sitting at a PC, which greatly restricted freedom of movement. Since then, several Internet telephones have been launched on the market, but callers had to use their PCs to configure these phones before placing calls. The C450 IP stands out from the crowd, though, because it works with either a fixed-line connection or on the Internet. What’s more, it doesn’t require a PC interface. The phone’s Gigaset series base station has two connections: In addition to a conventional fixed-line, the hybrid model is equipped with a LAN connection for Internet telephony (Voice over IP). Users only need to hook up this LAN feature to a DSL modem.

After its premiere at the fair, the C450 IP will be available in retail outlets for less than €100.
